The Embedding Photographic Images into Encaustic Painting workshop is one of three photo encaustic workshops taught by Andrea Clement. In this workshop, student’s photographs will be printed onto archival tissue paper, then embedded into their own encaustic painting. Encaustics is a mixed media technique that involves using a heated beeswax medium which is applied to a wooden surface and then other materials such as paint and pigments are incorporated upon and within the wax.
In this two day workshop, participants will have a hands on introduction to the techniques of encaustic painting such as creating and building up smooth translucent layers of wax, fusing, creating texture, application of paints, oil pastels, and pigments, as well as the processes involved in printing a photo onto tissue paper, and then incorporating it within the encaustic piece. This workshop is open to novice and experienced artists, as well as those who just want to try something different with their photos. Participants will take home 2 encaustic pieces that they have created from their own photographs.
Ages 15 and up.
