GRADES 6 to 8 | 2024-2025
Challenge 1: Heat Happenings PSA
YOUR CHALLENGE:
Tourists from around the world visit Miami for its beautiful beaches, vibrant culture and warm weather. Those of us that live here know how relentless the heat can be year round, and it’s only getting hotter. For this challenge we want you to create a video Public Service Announcement (PSA) to highlight the issue of rising temperatures for those in your community. Your PSA should include information about ecological or environmental concerns and also connect to the impact that rising temperatures has had on your life. Identify what audience you want to reach–will this video only be understood by your peers or should everyone enjoy your video? Encourage the viewer to take part in one action or activity that can help support action that mitigates these impacts and help South Florida beat the heat. Download PDF for this info on one page
✓ Submission Requirements:
Create a 45 second – 1 minute video that describes real examples of how your community experiences rising temperatures and its specific impact on your life and activities. Your PSA should describe one action that could directly or indirectly mitigate rising temperatures. Your video can be live action or formatted using graphics or animation with an audio overlay. For example (but feel free to do something different!), you can create an advertisement-like video that could be shown on a social media platform. Make sure to remember who you want your audience to be — should you only use references your peers understand or can your PSA be understood by a wider general audience?
