YOUR CHALLENGE:
Fairchild Garden is a museum of plants collected from all around the world. Despite being a place of diverse plant life with unique botanical features and beauty, many of our guests leave the garden with little understanding of why these species made it into our collection. To help bring a voice to these plants, students will create a narrated, self-guided audio tour for visitors to enjoy while at Fairchild. Using the list provided below and the Fairchild Garden Explorer, select 5-8 plants that fit a common theme and bring visitors on an exciting and educational walk throughout the garden. Download PDF
ENTRY SUBMISSION: Monday, December 18, 2023 to Saturday, December 23, 2023

Digital Entry in form of a link to your audio file uploaded to a video hosting platform (Ex. Dropbox or Google Drive) and then the link is submitted on the entry form. Make sure your upload is accessible for review by adjusting the privacy or sharing settings. |

Each track must be saved as an .mp4 file and named SchoolName_Track#.mp4. For example, the first track for Fairchild High School should be saved “FairchildHS_Track01.mp4” |

Audio tour must cover 5-8 plants from the list provided below, one track per plant, and include information about the plant as it relates to the overall theme of the tour. |

Audio tour must include an introduction with a brief mention of school name as well as student(s) first name, last initial and grade level (please refer to the rubric for details) |

Each track must be 1-3 minutes in length, one track per stop on the tour. |

On-time entry submission. Late entries will be accepted with a reduction in points. Audio in students’ preferred language will be accepted. |
STUDENT WORKSHOP: Tuesday, October 24, 2023 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Bring your students to Fairchild for this in-person workshop to meet the plants in our collection. Students will learn why these plants are important and have the opportunity to map out and brainstorm ideas for their audio tour. Registration for this event will close on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 5:00 pm.
