School Field Trips at Fairchild
Our school field trips are designed to encourage exploration while applying STEM concepts. They build students’ critical thinking, foster a better understanding of the important role plants and animals play in our ecology, and provide real world application of the science knowledge they’ve learned during their in-person or virtual visit to Fairchild.
We offer in-person guided and self-guided field trips.
In-Person Guided Field Trip Programs
October – May, 10 AM- 1 PM, 60 students max
$12 per student; Complimentary admission for 1 chaperone per 10 students. $25.00 additional chaperones
In-Person Self-Guided Field Trip Program
Year-round, 60 students max
$10 per student; Complimentary admission for 1 chaperone per 10 students. $18.00 additional chaperones

Guided: Botany Basics (K-2nd)
How do plants eat? What do plants give us? How do they adapt to their environment? Together, we'll explore the garden to answer these questions and more in this framework-laying field trip.
Guided: Seeds to Space (3rd-5th)
From tiny seeds to space stations, we'll investigate what plants need to thrive on Earth and off-planet, and why they are an essential part of exploring the final frontier.
Guided: Flowers to Fruits (K-2nd)
From the Native Butterfly Garden to our Wings of the Tropics conservatory, we'll learn about plants and pollinators and how their budding relationships are critical to our everyday fruits and veggies!
Guided: Nature's Neighbors (3rd-5th)
Sometimes, you love your neighbor - and sometimes, you can't stand them! Join us on a tour of the garden that takes us through the rainforest and conservatories as we learn about different plant-animal interactions, from pollination to herbivory.
Guided: Endangered Environments (6th-8th)
Join us as we explore vastly different habitats - from tropical rainforests filled with towering trees to deserts filled with spiky, spiny plants - and learn about the similarities and differences between these paradoxical biomes; including the threats that they face.
Guided: Living Labs (9th-12th)
Do you think working with plants is only done in a garden? Think again! Dive deep into the world of plant science on a behind-the-scenes tour of the different types of research conducted at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and let us show you how science can be done anywhere, anytime, using a variety of tools and techniques.
