Fairchild Fellows
History of Fairchild Fellows
The Fairchild Fellows were established in 1967 to support horticulture, research, education, and conservation programs. This founding group of philanthropists led the path in providing necessary resources to grow one of the world’s greatest botanic gardens. David Fairchild, our founder and the nation’s foremost botanist, dedicated Fairchild towards education, horticulture and preservation.
Fellows Impact Today and Tomorrow
This 83-acre garden was opened to the public in 1938 and has created a landmark for tropical horticultural and educational reformation. The vision of David Fairchild continues today, benefiting South Florida neighborhoods, gardens and community. Fairchild’s field work includes collaboration abroad with over 20 countries across the world. Due to the generosity of our Fellows, our mission to explore, explain and conserve the world of tropical plants will continue for generations to come.
