Pineland Strongbark

Bourreria cassinifolia
Distribution: South Florida and the Caribbean

Bourreria cassinifolia, commonly known as Pineland Strongbark, is a medium-sized, low-branched shrub that thrives in full sun to light shade and is highly tolerant of drought. It prefers well-drained sandy or limestone soils and grows slowly, eventually reaching five to eight feet in height and four to five feet in width. The plant produces small, fragrant white flowers throughout the year, which attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. These are followed by bright orange drupes that serve as food for birds. Due to its rarity and ecological value, it plays an important role in restoration and conservation efforts across its native range in South Florida.
