Range: South Florida & Caribbean

This is our native mahogany tree, found naturally in hardwood hammocks of the Florida Keys and Miami-Dade. It is widely planted as a street tree or a shade tree, and it grows well in urban environments. It bears hard, woody seed capsules that split open to release winged seeds. This is one of several species of mahogany that are prized for their beautiful, strong wood.
