Range: South Florida, Caribbean, South America

An important component of Caribbean hardwood hammock habitats, this spectacular, large native tree is well suited to our local growing conditions. It is often planted as a street tree or shade tree in public and residential landscapes. Its new growth has an interesting, bronze-red color, and its purple fruits are attractive. The flowers and fruit provide a food source for native butterflies and birds.
