Sideroxylon foetidissimum

Range: Florida, Bahamas, West Indies, Mexico, and Central America

A fast-growing native tree, false mastic is easy to grow and resilient. It tolerates poor soil and drought conditions and performs well as an urban street tree. It has a large, buttressed trunk when fully grown. False mastic fruits are edible and attract birds, while the flowers are showy but have a peculiar odor.
