Burmese rosewood

Pterocarpus indicus

Range: Southeast Asia, Australia, & Southwest Pacific

Burmese rosewood is a common street tree in Southeast Asia, where it is native. It is also grown as a source of timber, with purplish, sweet scented wood that is excellent for making furniture. Here in South Florida it is occasionally planted as an ornamental tree. It grows large and bears masses of yellow fragrant flowers during the dry season.
