Florida Keys Blackbead

Pithecellobium keyense

Range: Florida, Bahamas, el Caribe, México y Centroamérica

This native shrub grows naturally throughout the Florida Keys. It bears attractive pink or white flowers that provide nectar for many kinds of native butterflies. The brown seed pods split open to reveal shiny black seeds held in place by a bright red aril. A great landscape plant in South Florida, it is easy to grow with little maintenance.

Our Garden Shop will be temporarily closed on Friday, October 31 as we conduct our annual inventory. All guests will still be welcomed at the Garden, and may check in at the table outside of the Shop. Drinks and coffee will be available for purchase at the Garden Bistro.
