Burle Marx Philodendron
Philodendron ‘Burle Marx’
There are about 500 species of Philodendron worldwide, mostly tropical vines. Many are known as durable and attractive houseplants, but this one is very popular as an outdoor groundcover. It is easy to grow in South Florida, where it rapidly spreads and fills empty garden spaces. Happy in sun or shade, it can tolerate poor soil and periods of drought. Roberto Burle Marx (1909-1994) was a pioneer of landscape architecture. Born in Brazil and best known for his work in that country, he has had a lasting influence on tropical garden design worldwide. This is one of many exceptional landscape plants that now bear his name.
