Passion vine

Passiflora x alato-caerulea

There are more than 500 species of passion vine, mostly native to tropical America with a few outliers in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Islands. Three species are native to South Florida, but many exotic species and hybrids are planted in local gardens. Some are grown for fruit, including the well-known passion fruit and granadilla. Many more, including this exotic hybrid, are grown for their beautiful and unmistakable flowers. The conspicuous ring of bristle-like appendages, called the corona, is unique to these plants.

Passion vine

Passiflora x alato-caerulea
