White leadtree
Leucaena leucocephala
Range: Mexico & Central America
This is a very fast growing tree that has become weedy and invasive in many parts of the world. It has a remarkable ability to produce large amounts of biomass quickly and was once planted as a quick solution to deforestation and a rapidly renewable source of livestock feed. Unfortunately it is impossible to control, and now you can find it popping up along roadsides throughout South Florida. The young pods are edible and sometimes eaten in salads.
