Maidenbush

Heterosavia bahamensis

Range: S. Florida, Bahamas, Cuba

Maidenbush is native to southern Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, but its wild populations are threatened by habitat loss. In the landscape, it is a nice, slow-growing shrub that can be pruned into a screening hedge. Its new leaves are bright red, contrasting with its glossy green foliage.
