Native to local mangrove habitats, buttonwood is one of the toughest, most resilient landscape plants for coastal habitats. With a very wide natural distribution, it withstands salt, flooding, and hurricane-force winds and also adapts to urban conditions. Growing as a large shrub or a multi-trunked tree in the landscape, it is often used as a hedge or screen.

Nativa de los hábitats de manglares locales, buttonwood es una de las plantas paisajísticas más fuertes y resistentes para los hábitats costeros. Con una distribución natural muy amplia, soporta vientos salados, inundaciones y huracanes y también se adapta a las condiciones urbanas. Creciendo como un arbusto grande o un árbol con muchos troncos en el paisaje, se utiliza a menudo como una cobertura o pantalla.
