Autograph tree

Clusia rosea

Range: South Florida & Caribbean

This tree is native to the lower Florida keys but is widely planted in other parts of the state. It is easily recognized by its tough leaves and conspicuous aerial roots. Its seeds sprout in the branches of other trees, and as it grows, it can eventually kill its host tree by strangling or outgrowing it. Clusias are often planted as hedges between yards, but they can grow aggressively if not maintained.

Clusia rosea
