This beloved tropical tree bears one of the world’s most intensely fragrant flowers. Also known as the Chanel Nº 5 tree, its sweet floral scent is widely used in the perfume industry. Here in South Florida, ylang-ylang grows vigorously and often blooms throughout the year. The flowers begin to emit their scent in late afternoon and become more intensely fragrant after dark. The trees are not storm resistant and often lose their branches in high winds.
