West Indian laurel fig

Ficus americana

Range: Caribbean and Mexico to South America

This tropical American species was introduced into Florida long ago and is now well established here. It is a nice medium-sized landscape and street tree, with beautiful dark green foliage and aerial roots that emerge from the trunk and branches. It bears small, red figs that attract birds. Like other species of Ficus, it grows well as an indoor potted plant or bonsai.
