Giant leather fern

Acrostichum danaeifolium

Range: Florida & Tropical Americas

This native fern has enormous leaves, sometimes growing to an impressive size of 12 feet. It is very common in wet areas, including marshes and swamps, throughout South Florida. The top side of the fronds are bright green while the underside is a reddish brown. Like most ferns, it produces spores, not seeds, on the undersides of its fronds.
