Yellow Walking Iris

Trimezia steyermarkii

Range: Mexico to South America

This is a popular garden plant throughout the tropics, reminiscent of the related Irises that are popular in cooler regions. Here in South Florida it blooms throughout the year with attractive, bright yellow, brown-spotted flowers. After it blooms, new plants form directly on the flowering stalk, which gradually bends down until the new plants contact the soil. In this way, the plant spreads by “walking.”
