Nothing says “Miami” like an avenue of majestic royal palms. This is an iconic, native palm that is grown throughout South Florida as a street tree and in all kinds of landscapes. The green column at the top of the stem is formed by the bases of the enormous feathery leaves. When royal palms bloom, they release so much pollen that it can look like falling snow. Drive through the agricultural lands south of Miami and you’ll see acres and acres of royal palms being cultivated for the landscape industry. You can still find some royal palms growing wild in the Everglades, but they are much more common in Cuba and other parts of the Caribbean.

Nada dice “Miami” como una avenida de majestuosas palmeras reales. Se trata de una palmera nativa icónica que se cultiva en todo el sur de Florida como árbol callejero y en todo tipo de paisajes. La columna verde en la parte superior del tallo está formada por las bases de sus enormes hojas plumosas. Cuando las palmas reales florecen, liberan tanto polen que puede parecer nieve que cae. Conduzca por las tierras agrícolas al sur de Miami y verá acres y acres de palmeras reales que se cultivan para la industria del paisaje. Todavía se pueden encontrar algunas palmas reales que crecen silvestres en los Everglades, pero son mucho más comunes en Cuba y otras partes del Caribe.
