Range: Bahamas to Greater Antilles
This delightful orchid is also called “Cuban Chocolate Orchid,” or “Flor de San Pedro.” This fragrant species can also be found in the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, and Turks and Caicos. It grows near seacoasts at low elevations. The chocolate orchid blooms from spring through fall, producing flowers with a strong scent of chocolate. These orchids are being propagated by Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden with the help of local high school students at José Martí MAST Academy in Hialeah, Florida.
