Adansonia digitata
Range: Africa
This is the most famous tree of Africa, the conspicuous, fat-stemmed baobab found in dry grasslands and forests across the continent. It protects itself from drought by storing water in its stems. This makes the tree a target for thirsty animals including elephants. People use the tree for many things, including shelter, food, and medicine. Here in South Florida, baobabs grow very well and make excellent landscape trees.
