Join award-winning landscape architect, Carlos Somoza, on a journey through subtropical gardens and contemporary landscapes. The morning’s illustrated presentation will touch upon the designer’s philosophy on sustainable planting design and the design principles behind his studio’s noteworthy gardens. Color, form, and texture will be discussed along with the basic culture, habit and architectural characteristics of exotic and native plant palettes. A plant species list of the studio’s favorite planting combinations for Zone 10 and a list of local nursery resources for plant materials will be available to participants.

Instructor Bio:
Carlos Somoza is passionate about the design and craft of modern tropical gardens. Carlos is the design principal of his namesake studio, Carlos Somoza | Landscape Architecture, an award-winning garden design and landscape architecture practice based in Miami, Florida. The designer specializes in creating naturalized landscapes and contemporary outdoor spaces. His studio creates bespoke garden projects with unique narratives and captivating experiences. An avid traveler, Carlos carries a passport and camera as he visits private estates and botanic gardens for design inspiration and to capture winning combinations of plant palettes and natural environs.
