INTRODUCTION TO PHOTO TRANSFERS UPON AN ENCAUSTIC PAINTED SURFACE

The Photo Transfers Upon an Encaustic Painted Surface workshop is one of three photo encaustic workshops taught by Andrea Clement. This workshop will teach you how to create a photo encaustic artwork by using the photo transfer process and encaustic painting techniques. Encaustics is a mixed media technique that involves using a melted beeswax medium which is applied to a wooden surface and then other materials such as paint, ground pigments and oil pastels are incorporated upon and within the wax.

­­­­In this two-day workshop, participants will have a hands-on introduction to the techniques of creating and building up smooth translucent layers of wax, fusing, creating texture, application of paints, oil pastels, and pigments, and the photo transfer process upon the painted waxed surface.

This workshop is open to novice and experienced artists, as well as those who just want to try something different with their photos. No painting experience is needed for this process. Participants will take home 2 encaustic pieces that they have created from their own photographs. Please note that there is a $40 materials fee for this class.
