Introduction to Encaustic Techniques is a newly developed workshop created by local Miami encaustic artist, Andrea Clement. In this two-day workshop, participants will have a hands on introduction to the various techniques used to create encaustics paintings.

Encaustics is a mixed media technique that involves using a heated beeswax medium which is applied to a wooden surface and then other materials such as paint, pigments and collage may be incorporated upon and within the wax.

Participants will explore creating and building up smooth translucent layers of wax, fusing, creating texture, incising lines, application of colored wax, paint, ink, and pastels. Students will take home 4 encaustic pieces that they have created. This workshop is open to those with no experience with encaustics, as well as returning encaustic students who would like to further their skills.

Ages 15 and up.
