CHOCOLATE GROWS IN RAINFORESTS
– Like the one here at Fairchild
Fairchild’s Rainforest is one of the few places in the country where cacao can truly thrive. It’s also a living cloud forest, rich with tropical plant diversity at every turn and home to the National Orchid Garden, a place where you can see the origins of chocolate surrounded by some of the world’s most extraordinary plants.
WHERE CHOCOLATE TRULY BEGINS
Chocolate begins long before the truffle or the bar. It begins on a tree, and you can see that tree right here. Fairchild is one of the rare places in the continental U.S. where Theobroma cacao (the tree of the chocolate fruit) grows outdoors, a living reminder of chocolate’s tropical origins. From bean to bar, from tree to treat, the cacao grown at Fairchild links today’s creations to a history so rich it earned chocolate the name “food of the gods.”
THEOBROMA
From the Greek theos, meaning “god,” and broma, meaning “food.” The literal scientific meaning: “food of the gods.”
