Roughbark lignum vitae

Guaiacum officinale

Range: Caribbean & northern South America

Although this tree is widespread through the Caribbean region, it does not grow naturally in Florida. It is a close relative of Guaiacum sanctum, our native lignum vitae, and both species have been overexploited as a source of hard, dense timber. It is now endangered in its native range. Like our native species, this tree is an excellent landscape plant with spectacular, pollinator-friendly flowers.

Roughbark lignum vitae

Guaiacum officinale
